A Definition Of A Teenage Novel

January30

Since I’m going to be writing a lot about teenage novels on this blog and reviewing plenty of them (I hope) I thought it might be a good idea to look at what I mean by a Teenage Novel.

So with this in mind here is my personal definition:

A teenage novel is a story which centres around teenager(s) told from the teenage point of view with little (or preferably no interference) from adults.

To expand on this a little the story can be in any genre, a horror, romance, thriller, detective – almost all of the genres which exist in adult fiction also exist in teenage fiction.

To be absolutely clear I regard a teenage novel to be a story which is clearly aimed at teenagers but which might be read by a wider audience like Twilight not one which was intended for a different audience but which teenagers happen to like eg some of Terry Pratchet’s novels.

Two Extracts From Deathwatch

January28

Hello, one, two, testing…

This is a test post on Books 4 Teens to double, possibly tripple check that the video part of this theme actualy works.

The video is actually kind of relevant (if a little out of date – sorry), it’s two extracts from Nicola Morgan’s novel, Deathwatch.

Enjoy!

P.S. Got there in the end & even got a nice thumbnail picture on the homepage to show for it
